A few of you have asked me about Peace Corps, why I joined, and the process of becoming a volunteer.
As to why I became a volunteer, it just felt right to me. I’ve always wanted to see a new part of the world, learn about a new culture, integrate into that culture and make a positive impact on the world along the way. It wasn’t until college that I learned about Peace Corps and I knew, immediately, I wanted to do it.
The application process is long and hard (it took me nearly 1.5 years just to complete all the necessary paperwork) and can be expensive if you don’t have medical insurance. Peace Corps want their volunteers to be healthy as they’re sometimes in conditions their bodies must get accustomed to.
I can talk forever about why it’s worth it and how I would recommend everyone to join as it truly is the toughest job I ever loved. But if you’re really interested in joining, I found this website very helpful when I had a lot of questions about the process, the benefits of being a volunteer, and whether or not it was really worth it for me: http://www.soyouwanna.com/soyouwanna-join-peace-corps-1044.html
I hope this helps point you all in the right direction. :)
Anonymous asked: I love your photos! They are absolutely amazing. I'm half Filipino half Aussie and I just spent a month over there. Hope you get to see Cebu, it's a beautiful place. If you do, when I visit I live in the province of Carcar. They're having trouble with waste management. It's still beautiful though! xx
Hi, thanks! :) I actually never got the chance to visit Cebu. Still one of my biggest regrets. The Philippines is the most gorgeous country I’ve ever seen…but you’re right: environmental conservation, or the lack there-off, is a huge issue in the country. Especially since a large portion of the population depends on the land for their main source of income and food. I hope I can return there one day to work more with small communities and help whatever way I can.
everybody wants to be different and that just means you’re the same as everybody else.
